ADR: The name of project/label was choiced thinking on Apollonia 6 (Patricia Kotero) from Prince’s 80s project and not on a ancient Greek colony. Why?
Dan: The whole concept around Apollonia is that we are all massive fans of Prince and Apollonia is the girlfriend of Prince. In the movie Purple Rain, she is the one who offered him the famous white guitar. But to go deeper in the concept, Prince invented what he called the Minneapolis sound, which is a mixture of white soul and black music, and this is what we try to do with Apollonia.
ADR: Do you think exploit the image and visuals from Apollonia Kotero in your Sets (smile)?
Shonky: We took the name form that, but we don’t want to be a copy of Apollonia. The name is from Prince, but that’s it. We are not going to play the music, this is more a symbol.
ADR: Which is the label’s philosophy?
Shonky: Good music quality music that we all like, from deep house to techno, a wide spectrum.
ADR: Which is your share at Electronic scene? Do you feel that you are not invented anything new on Electronic scene? Lack quality on Electronic music?
Shonky: I don’t have the pretentions to bring anything, i just want to express what i feel in a techno and house way. i am not michael jackon and i will never be. I bring a little bit of shonky and hope they will like it.
ADR: What do you think about the actual Electronic Culture on Europe and the rest of the World? Is it better than 5 years ago or not?
Shonky: It is growing. More people are in to it. The movement is growing, more people doing it, more peope involved, better synergy. It’s cool. What is better and what is worse? For me it is the same, its just growing, nothing else changed. Five years ago was already digital and already hard for vinyl, perhaps you can ask me in 15 years.
ADR: How do you see the Djing act in next 5 years. DJs will play MP3 wireless and the crew will listen wireless too on the dance floor?
Shonky: I will still be playing vinyl if it is working in clubs. what really matters is not the suport but what you are playing, who cares if you are playing mp3 or usb.. some people don’t have turntables, i will never blame people. i am vinyl fan though.
ADR: What had you been if you were not DJs/Producers?
Shonky: I would work in art.
Dyed: I think i would be a dancer
Dan: I think i would work in art
ADR: Zodiac signs
Shonky: Pisces
Dyed: Virgo
Dan: Scorpio
ADR: Complete the sentence…”The Japanese are aliens and now they are between us…”
– We don’t get it!
